As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, Alexandra Marine & General Hospital (AMGH) is working closely with local Public Health representatives and health care partners to closely monitor the pandemic and adjust services and visiting guidelines accordingly.



Visitor Guidelines - Effective January 11, 2022


Visiting permissions have changed in response to efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as we aim to continue to protect the health and safety of our patients and staff. It is necessary for the hospital to temporarily suspend non-essential visiting at this time due to increased community transmission. There may temporarily be additional restrictions at times if units experiencing outbreak and as determined in partnership with Huron Perth Public Health.

Service Updates

At this time AMGH has resumed all essential and non-essential services. This will include in person or virtual care if appropriate.

COVID-19 Testing/Collection Centre located at:

Goderich Kinsmen Centre
185 Keays St. Goderich

The testing/collection centre will be open from
10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Only patients with appointments will be tested.

Patients who have been tested can check their test results at


AMGH is unable to provide outpatient COVID-19 testing at the hospital at this time.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Most patients experience mild symptoms, and recover without treatment. More information on symptoms is available here

Please take the provincial COVID-19 self-assessment and follow provided instructions.

How do I protect myself?

Coronaviruses are spread mainly from person to person through close contact, for example, in a household, workplace or health care centre.


There is no vaccine available to protect against the 2019 novel coronavirus, but there are actions you can take to help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses.


Everyday actions


Take these everyday steps to reduce exposure to the virus and protect your health:

  • wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  • sneeze and cough into your sleeve

  • avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth

  • avoid contact with people who are sick

  • stay home if you are sick

Who is being tested for COVID-19?

At this time, due to limited test supplies across the province, patients are unlikely to be tested for COVID-19 unless they are admitted to hospital.
